Turn a sweater into a friend

In spring 2021 at the Open studio in The Iceland’s Museum of Design and applied Arts the Ýrúrarí creative mending workshop was developed in workshops for the public. In the workshop the participants work with their own sweaters that need mending or a personal change or with “unsellable” sweater provided by the local textile gathering. The workshop is designed so the participants get the opportunity to learn new simple mending skills, think about their clothes and their personal style, but also to socialize with strangers and spend a quality time together hand crafting and mending. The workshop has traveled in various places in Iceland such as the Tool Library(ICE), Röstin residency(ICE), Tivoli(DK), Helsinki Fashion week(FI), Kunstparken(NO), MAK(AT), Knitknit(GE), Pakhusstrikk(DK), Konfekt kunststopferei(GE) and Folkemödet(DK). In the autumn of 2021 the workshop was held at the annual Pictoplasma character design conference in Berlin where the concept grew into the name “Turn a sweater into a friend”.
